In 2014, Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Entertainment announced an ambitious series of movies based on DC Comics characters. The original schedule included a two-part Justice League project and at least two films a year through 2020. Things did not go according to plan with Justice League compressing its story into one film and projects like The Flash experiencing delays.
